Literary Feuds: William Wordsworth vs. Samuel Taylor Coleridge
This literary break up, which ended 15 years of intense friendship, still divides fans of each author to this day. The pair had worked together on Lyrical Ballads and even moved to the same town.
Wordsworth, speaking to a mutual friend, reportedly called Coleridge “a rotten drunkard” and said he had been “an absolute nuisance in his family”.
Coleridge expressed his upset that the friendship came to such an end: “Woe is me that a friendship of 15 years should come to this!”
